On March 14th, the ACMP DC hosted the Understanding, Managing, and  Overcoming Resistance to Change, featuring Salima Hemani. For many organizations that aim to transform, internal resistance to change is their biggest roadblock. The longer the change remains in elevated states of resistance, the greater the impact on productivity and operations, and greater the risk of general resentment, low employee motivation and even loss of valued talent. Salima Hemani, President SZH Consulting, lead this interactive session, driving critical conversation around how to effectively recognize and address various forms of overt and covert resistance. She introduced new and proven techniques, based in neuroscience and organizational effectiveness methodologies,  to help change leaders successfully plan, prepare and manage the resistance and build change savvy organizations.

Participants took away some great lessons that they can apply to their own work. The session was interactive, but for a glimpse into what was discussed, you can find the slide deck here.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 23, 2019
    Media Inquiries: Kristen Wright
, ACMP-DC Director of Public Relations and Communications

Washington, D.C. – The Association of Change Management Professionals, Washington, D.C. Chapter (ACMP-DC) is pleased to announce its newly elected board members for 2019-2020.

“We are excited to announce and welcome our newly elected officers and directors,” stated Vice President Katie Prasser, who will become the Board President in April. She added, “We have some big shoes to fill as our outgoing board members hand us the baton; however, I am confident that this amazing team of highly capable and dedicated change management leaders will serve as great stewards and make great strides in creating meaningful and lasting change throughout the DC metro area.”

“I couldn’t be more delighted to see these talented leaders join the board this year, led in particular by Katie Prasser,” added A. J. Schuler, outgoing chapter President.  “Katie and our outgoing board members have built a great foundation to serve our members, and I can’t wait to see where this new generation of leaders will take us.”

Please join us in welcoming our new board members!

Jennifer Duff will assume the role of Vice President for the chapter. Jenn is a seasoned change management and human capital professional with over 20 years of experience transforming organizations. In 2018, she served as ACMP-DC’s volunteer program coordinator and established the foundation for a sustainable, strengths-based program. As Vice President (and then President in 2020-2021), she sees opportunities for the chapter to align change management practices to monumental shifts in the industry (for example, artificial intelligence); build relationships with private, non-profit, and government teams to share best practices; and build bridges with other professional organizations to offer holistic development opportunities to our members.

Tamia Ward-Blakley will assume the role of Secretary from outgoing Secretary Cynthia Hartman. Tamia, a Senior Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton, is a leader in the talent and change management practice within the Civilian Services Group. With over 19 years of professional experience, Tamia has led federal government and global private sector clients to implement change management, talent management, data analysis and IT integration initiatives. As a former civilian within the Federal Government, Tamia supported organizational strategy and people-focused initiatives across various roles. As Secretary, Tamia plans to enhance governance and operations to deliver a high-quality ACMP DC member experience, integrate chapter initiatives, and influence engagement with chapter members.

Cristyn Cram will become the Director of Training programs for the chapter. This is a new role on the board, as the chapter sharpens its focus on offering training and professional development opportunities to members. Cristyn is a Senior Change Management Strategist at Booz Allen Hamilton where she leads large-scale corporate change initiatives. A member of ACMP DC since the chapter's inception, she most recently served as a volunteer on the chapter's Programming, Events, and Training (PET) Committee. Having built her career through a combination of hands-on experience and professional development, Cristyn understands the value of training and development to career growth and is excited to evolve and expand the chapter’s training offerings.

Anne Marie DiNardo will assume the role of Director, Communities of Practice (CoP). Anne Marie is a change management leader who leverages her knowledge and expertise to advise government clients on implementing high-profile programs. Her focus areas include strategic communications, user adoption, organizational change, public speaking, knowledge management, and storytelling. She currently implements outreach strategies for a DoD initiative that oversees research and development projects to innovate and modernize learning technology to benefit the U.S. Federal Government and its workforce. Anne Marie has been an active and integral member of the fledgling Federal CoP, supporting that group’s formation and growth over the past year. She is looking forward to leveraging her skills and drive to advance the Federal CoP mission for professional collaboration and empowerment, while also exploring opportunities for developing new CoPs within the chapter, based on member interest.

Due to the expected winter storm today (Mar 21), we are cancelling this week's Prosci training class.

For those who were registered, the team at Prosci will count your tuition for this class as a credit for a future certification class of your choosing. The chapter is currently planning another class for dates TBA in June, and additional classes in September and December of this year.

We will coordinate with Prosci so that you are given first look option to register for those classes before we announce them to our members.  Due to the the logistics of reserving training space with our host/sponsor Booz Allen Hamilton, we are unable to announce specific dates until ten weeks before training is scheduled to occur.

Should that arrangement not suit you, please let me know and we will work out something to meet your needs.

Please stay safe and travel only as necessary during the storm.  We apologize for your inconvenience, and hope to see you at another chapter event some time soon.
