    In addition to the great ACMP DC programming, we like to share other events in the DC area that may be of interest to our members. Watch for more of these in the future:

    Workplace Evolutionaries (WE) Hub is  a community within the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). It is a diverse community of global thought leaders, partners, and members from a variety of industries and practices including, architecture and design, facilities management, construction, organization development and change management, among others. WE’s mission is to stimulate, empower and influence innovation and transformation in the workplace.

    Starting in September they will be hosting a series of interactive panels in Richmond, DC, and Baltimore titled Measurement and Metrics: Understanding the Psychology and Utilization of Space. For more information, click here.

    Due to the expected winter storm today (Mar 21), we are cancelling this week's Prosci training class. 

    For those who were registered, the team at Prosci will count your tuition for this class as a credit for a future certification class of your choosing. The chapter is currently planning another class for dates TBA in June, and additional classes in September and December of this year. 

    We will coordinate with Prosci so that you are given first look option to register for those classes before we announce them to our members.  Due to the the logistics of reserving training space with our host/sponsor Booz Allen Hamilton, we are unable to announce specific dates until ten weeks before training is scheduled to occur.

    Should that arrangement not suit you, please let me know and we will work out something to meet your needs.

    Please stay safe and travel only as necessary during the storm.  We apologize for your inconvenience, and hope to see you at another chapter event some time soon.

    As 2018 gets underway, we are looking forward to an exciting and successful new year for the DC chapter of the Association of Change Management Professionals. As chapter members, you can make a difference in how the chapter moves forward by considering a role as a board member.

    This is a great time to get involved. The DC chapter was started not long ago in 2014 by enterprising change management professionals in the DC area and now includes members from DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Service on the board of directors represents a unique opportunity to help drive the decisions of our chapter, collaborate with other change management professionals, and continue your leadership development. It is an exciting time to join the chapter’s leadership team and help chart a course for continued growth and impact.

    This year, we are looking to fill the following board roles:

    • Vice President (two-year commitment; VP becomes President the following year)
    • Director of Membership (two-year commitment)
    • Director of Programs/Events/Training (two-year commitment)
    • Director of Business Development/Sponsorship (two-year commitment)

    Are you interested in getting more involved with the  ACMP DC? Would you like a chance to meet and mentor other ACMP DC members? Then let us know. The ACMP DC is seeking volunteers in the two areas below:

    New Member Orientation Coordinators (2 volunteers needed)

    The New Member Orientation Lead will be supported by two volunteer coordinators who will assist with the quarterly orientation program. Roles and responsibilities include:

    • Participate in New Member Orientation Coordinator training
    • Assist with scheduling and logistics for the quarterly orientation sessions
    • Assist with inviting participants for the orientations
    • Assist with facilitating the orientations
    • Assist with evaluating and making recommendations to improve the orientation

    Time Commitment: Time commitment may vary based upon program needs and volunteer interest, however average time commitment will likely be:

    • Initial Training: 2 hours
    • Quarterly Orientations: 2-3 hours per quarter
    • Program Review/Update: 2-3 hours per year

    Peer Mentors (5 volunteers needed)

    Peer Mentors will be promptly matched with new members to provide a friendly, smooth transition into the chapter. Roles and responsibilities include:

    • Participate in Peer Mentor training
    • Reach out to new member via email or phone upon matching to welcome the new member to the chapter
    • Provide information and answer questions regarding association membership
    • Invite new members to attend events; attend together
    • Reach out to the new member via email, phone or in person throughout his/her first year of membership

    Time Commitment: Time commitment may vary based upon program needs and volunteer interest, however average time commitment will likely be:

    • Initial Training: 2 hours
    • Monthly Peer Mentoring: 2-3 hours per month
    • Program Review/Update: 2-3 hours per year

    On November 16, 2016, North Highland hosted the ACMP DC launch of the new Federal Community of Practice (CoP). The event featured a networking reception and a presentation by Sophonia Simms, Sherry Quinn, and Sandra Scarbrough about their work in launching a new change management office and capabilities at the National Institute of Health (NIH). Like many organizations, the NIH has recognized that change is constant, and since 2000 they have been working toward making effective change management a part of their operations in both their Office of Strategic Planning and Management Operations (OPSMO) and the NIH Business System (NBS). This has included a four-pronged approach focused on streamlining access to CM experts, developing a CM Community of Practice, developing NIH specific CM resources, and utilizing OPSMO CM staff to provide guidance on tools and methods.

    The three speakers led the audience through the steps to coordinate these efforts, create buy-in and enthusiasm across employee levels, and work toward empowering NIH employees to successfully implement change. They also provided a preview of their plans moving forward as they launch a pilot CM bootcamp and cohort in early 2017, training their first group of NIH leaders in how to guide their teams through change.

    This was the first of many planned Federal CoP events, so watch for announcements about more events in 2017. Additionally, ACMP DC is working to establish other Communities of Practice across a range of industries in the DC area, with the goal of connecting change practitioners who want to share best practices and experiences.
